Yesterday was Nya's Birthday (11/20). She is now 3 years old. She has been anticipating her birthday for quite some time. In fact, during the summer she was convinced that she was 2 turning 4. It took a lot of time to teach her that she was 2 turning 3. Her preschool teacher says that she is 2 turning 5 because she has no problem keeping up with the older kids in the class.
On Saturday we had a birthday party with Nya's friends and cousins. We probably had about 20 kids here. Not all of them were Nya's age, but she insisted on having her older friends and cousins come to her party. We ate pizza, made princess crowns and pirate hats, danced, opened presents and had cake and ice cream. Nya was in 7th heaven and loved her party. When she opened her presents, she gave all of the proper etiquette. She loved each present and expressed her excitement and surprise with each gift. In September, Christina gave Nya the Barbie Island Princess DVD and Doll. Nya loved them and played with them. Suddenly, a few weeks later, Nya told me the Island Princess was for her birthday and she needed to wrap it up. We wrapped it up and for the last month she looked at the wrapped Barbie and would say it is for her birthday. At her party she opened the Barbie and said with excitement and surprise in a completely animated voice, "Oh, Barbie Island Princess! Oh thank you. Ohhhh..." I cannot describe her reaction, it was quite precious.
On Monday Nya had a party at her preschool class. We made cupcakes to share and Nya was able to construct her own plastic cake from her teacher and the children sang to her. Nya was beaming the whole time.
On Tuesday (the actual day of Nya's birthday) Matt was out of town (but he called and sang Happy Birthday to Nya)so Jethro and Staci invited us over to celebrate. Megan and Katya were there too. We wanted to get a picture of Nya and Katya with the cake. Katya immediately stuck her hand in the cake before posing for the picture. Nya still thinks that was the funniest thing.
Happy Birthday Nya!
